File Formats

Cambrian Printers have always endeavoured to offer a first class service to all its customers. This is manifested in the quality of the products that we produce, and in the level of service and support that we offer. In order to maintain this high standard, we are always looking at ways of improving and streamlining the services and products we offer.

Whilst our preferred method of file supply has for some time been PDF (preferably to PDF-X/1a standard), we have always accepted native application files. However, we have found it increasingly difficult and time consuming to both ourselves and our clients to keep pace with the myriad desktop publication applications and variety of ways in which files are generated. We believe that attempting to offer full support on the complete range of DTP and file creation packages is having a detrimental impact on the quality and level of service that we are able to offer. Consequently, we will only offer full support on the following major DTP applications:

QuarkXPress 6.0 and above (collected for output with complete fonts and images)

InDesign 2.0, CS, CS2 & CS3 (packaged with complete fonts and images)

Illustrator

Photoshop.

We will no longer offer full support for files supplied in formats other than those stated above. However, we will offer very limited support on the following applications in order to generate PDF files (also please note that files not supplied in the preferred format as outlined above may incur additional costs in terms of further file preparation and extended time schedule to allow the work to be completed):

QuarkXpress 5 and below

PageMaker (however, please note that Adobe no longer support this application, and offer a cost effective upgrade route to InDesign and the CS package)

Microsoft Publisher 2004

CorelDraw

FreeHand.

Files supplied outside of the preferred applications stated above are likely to be outsourced and charged extra as incurred. If you have any concerns regarding this policy, then please contact your CSR or your main point of contact at Cambrian Printers.
